Trust Agency for Rural Development - TARUD
TARUD is a Gambian registered non-governmental organisation (NGO) which was created in 1998. It was originally formed to manage projects funded by the MBG. In November 1998 a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with MBG.
It manages projects in:
- Health
- Livelihoods
- Early childhood development
- Water and sanitation
- Community linking
Governed by a Board of Trustees, TARUD employs around 15 administrative and project staff; 5 staff in the Pre- school, and 20-30 literacy facilitators, volunteer staff and peer group counsellors. It is a member of The Gambian 'The Association of Non-Governmental Organisations' (TANGO).
Vision Statement (TARUD Strategic Plan 1999-2002):
To have an empowered, gender conscious global community capable of identifying challenges and addressing their own development needs.
Mission Statement:
TARUD is an internationally linked Gambian NGO that is responsive to community strategic needs and which primarily targets the rural disadvantaged in Gunjur and surrounding villages. Its vision will be achieved through an integrated gender sensitive programme that develops human potential and provides services that enhance social and economic capacity. TARUD also intends that its programmes in The Gambia will promote awareness of development issues to the global community through linking and development education.
