Department for International Development

At a time when the Government was putting considerable funding into schools (£25m) and health care partnerships (27m), the Department for International Development sent a team of researchers to Marlborough to undertake a comparative study exploring the impact that the link with Gunjur was having on people's attitudes to, and support for international development, as compared to people in five other similar communities.

On finding that there was a significantly greater knowledge of, and support for international development in Marlborough than in the other communities the decision was taken to provide £5m of funding for other communities to develop links with communities in the Global South.
